Campus Life

Orientation 2009

New Student Checklist

When you arrive on campus...

  • Make sure to get your York College Identification Card (ID). All students must carry a York College ID. The IDs are used in the Dining Hall, the Library, the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center, to reserve recreational equipment/games in the Student Activities Office, as FLEX in many places on campus, etc. If you haven't already gotten your picture taken for your ID, you'll be able to do so during Orientation in William Walker, on the first floor of the Student Union.

  • Set up a bank account in the 1770’s Room of the Student Union during Orientation. You may have a bank account at home, but you also may want to investigate whether having an account at a bank in the York area is practical for you. Find out if there are fees  involved when withdrawing money in York if your bank is elsewhere.

  • Purchase a parking permit from the Department of Campus Safety if you have a vehicle on campus. During Orientation, Campus Safety will be available in William Walker, first floor of Student Union.

  • Purchase your books (if you didn't pre-order!) and supplies in the York College Bookstore. The earlier you do this, the shorter the lines will be. You will also have a greater selection of used books!  If you pre-ordered your text books, you can pick those up in Spart's Den during Orientation.

  • Find your classes. You should find your classrooms prior to the first day of classes so you won’t be late! Orientation Leaders will be happy to assist you in locating your classrooms!

You are bound to have many questions.   Orientation Leaders, Faculty Advisors, and York College staff are available and more than happy to help answer any questions that you have.
