BSM/MIRT Degree

The Bachelor of Science in Music degree with studies in Music Industry and Recording Technology at York College of Pennsylvania prepares students for careers in audio recording and production, audio/music product retail sales, entertainment end-product distribution, music business, music production for broadcasting, music performance, and sound reinforcement. This unique program provides a student with the opportunity to blend a music studies education with the study of recording/music production while gaining a strong business/marketing foundation.

 

Selected music courses include Music Theory, Ear Training and Music History offerings. Music Industry and Business courses offerings include Copyright and Licensing, Entertainment and Promotion, Small Business Ventures, Marketing, Management, Public Relations, and Survey of Music Industry. A series of Audio and Music Production courses covers the following topics: audio for broadcast, audio mixing, computer-based audio production, digital signal processing, Foley stage sound production, microphone theory and placement, recording studio management, sound effect planning and creation, studio recording, and sound reinforcement.

 

 Students can also select from a number of business, media production-based, or music electives with the intention of either broadening their knowledge base or specializing in an area of interest. Students may also arrange Internships and Independent Studies. Students are required to successfully complete an instrumental or vocal performance audition before being granted acceptance into the program. York College general admission requirements also apply.
