Safety & Security

How does York College ensure a safe campus environment?

The York College Security Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and services the College campus in safety, security, and traffic matters. A full-time director supervises a student staff of more than 30 officers, most of whom are criminal justice majors. These student officers are fully trained in safety and security matters.

All York College students are encouraged to use good judgement with regard to their personal safety and property security while on campus and in the community. Students who live in or visit the College's neighborhood areas must be aware that any disorderly conduct, underage drinking, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated by the York Area Police and, in that instance, will be treated as citizens and be responsible for such laws.

  • Campus Escort Service - Students, faculty, and staff have the privilege of a campus escort 24 hours a day by making one phone call. An escort can be obtained by dialing extension "0" and after 10 p.m. by dialing extension 1314.

  • Emergency Call Boxes - These boxes are located in various spots on campus and should be identified when a student is new to campus. A phone call to the Security Office or the Housing Office can help a student locate the emergency call boxes.
