The Annual Fund, which focuses on supplementing student scholarship support, is a funding priority at York College. The Annual Fund at YCP
At Broad Park Manor Wellness Center, we are able to prepare for our future careers by assessing, teaching, and developing relationships with residents in the clinic and at home visits. This is a wonderful community outreach which allows us to provide nursing care while gaining a hands-on learning experience. ~ Anne Feustle ’09, Nursing
York College nursing students gain extensive real-world experience at three Nurse-Managed Centers in York County. These centers provide numerous services to low-income, underserved individuals in York City, including health screenings, intervention services, and community referrals. Staffed by York College nursing students, residents of these three low-income apartment complexes benefit from free regular medical care within easy reach. In the 2007-2008 academic year, students cared for 2,500 individuals in the Nurse-Managed Centers.
Nursing students at these centers put into practice skills learned in the classroom, such as nutrition education, blood-pressure monitoring, prevention programs, and health assessments. Mastering these skills, as well as learning the theories and history of medicine, prepares our students for a career in nursing.There is no better teacher than experience and at York College our nurses get the very best.
