Campus Wellness

 WELLNESS STATEMENT

In accordance with the Mission for Student and Campus life, the College assists students who commit their full-time to higher education to develop intellectually, physically, socially spiritually, culturally and professionally and, to that end, provides an extensive program of relevant extracurricular activities.

The Student Affairs Wellness Committee is comprised of faculty, administrators and student representatives and its purpose is to sponsor wellness related programming and promote already established student wellness initiatives.

THE WELLNESS WHEEL

The Seven Areas of Wellness Are:

  • Social Wellness
  • Occupational Wellness
  • Physical Wellness
  • Intellectual Wellness
  • Emotional Wellness
  • Cultural/Spiritual Wellness
  • Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Wellness

*Note, ATOD is not part of the traditional “Wellness Wheel” and it would traditionally fall under physical wellness. We make it a separate category in our programming goals and efforts because it is a significant issue on College and University campuses.

WELLNESS EVENTS

Each semester, the Student Affairs Wellness Committee, with the support of Student Affairs offices, coordinates several wellness themed weeks.

The themed weeks are:

  • Student Check In Week (third week in the fall semester)
  • National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (October)
  • Stressbuster Wellness Weeks (each semester, the week before final exams)
  • Successful Student Week (February)

ALCOHOL AWARENESS AWARD

Many exceptional people and extraordinary clubs and organizations work to prevent and reduce alcohol associated harm on our campus, yet they are often silent achievers who receive little recognition.

The Student Affairs Wellness Committee offers recognition annually through the Alcohol Awareness Award. As the College focuses more on alcohol harm reduction, the committee strives to include all areas of campus in those efforts. Anyone currently affiliated with the YCP - faculty, staff, or student - may nominate or be nominated for the Alcohol Awareness Award.  Nominations are accepted throughout the academic year but must be submitted to the Student Affairs Wellness Committee in March.

The award is given to a faculty, staff, student or student organization during the College Recognition Ceremony each April.
