Campus Public Safety Academy
The need for professional, academy level training for today's officers who patrol our campuses is more important than ever. For those institutions in Pennsylvania who do not have officers that attend the municipal police officers academy, this training is even more vital. Recognizing this nee, several colleges in central PA collaborated and developed a training academy program for their officers. Now in its third year, this program is available to area agencies who want to provide their officers with the highest level of professional training available.
Hosted by York College of Pennsylvania, the two week campus public safety academy includes over 80 hours of instruction by experienced campus public safety professionals, municipal and federal law enforcement officers and college criminal justice faculty. The training includes both classroom instruction and hands-on skills. A comprehensive test is administered at the conclusion of the academy and a passing score is required to graduate. Those attending the academy will also benefit from interacting with officers from other colleges and universities throughout Pennsylvania.
ACADEMY MATERIALS
All officers attending the academy receive a training binder, copies of all presentation handouts, various books and manuals and T-shirts for the hands-on training. Officers who carry a firearm will be issued a blue-gun training weapon that matches their department issued weapon. Upon graduating, all officers receive a framed certificate of completion and an academy polo shirt and pin.
