YCP Alumni Book Club

Join Spartans for Your Next Read

Thank you to everyone throughout the difficult last year and a half who participated in this Book Club.  For many of us, it was a helpful part of staying connected with other York alumni during the pandemic.

Educated is our final book.  We will leave the Facebook account open for a while longer, so please feel free to leave comments about this book throughout the summer.  Please continue to check Social Toaster, Facebook, Instagram, and your email inbox for other exciting news coming from the Alumni Relations Office.

Announcing the new YCP Alumni Book Club! Join the YCP Alumni Book Club to connect with fellow Spartans and continue learning. Enjoy books on various topics including lifelong learning, social issues, literature, leadership, and other user-submitted ideas

Participants will connect online through message boards on Goodreads and other mediums to discuss the current book and network with each other. There is no cost to join, though members will be responsible for acquiring the book to enjoy (one every two months).

Three Reasons to Join:

1. Connect with fellow Spartans over a good book

2. Pursue lifelong learning to build your knowledge and sharpen your skills

3. Boost your career by expanding your network and your professional know-how

The YCP Alumni Book Club will be moderated by a staff member and alumni volunteers. Future book selections may also be moderated by YCP faculty members on topics related to their areas of expertise.

Books are selected every two months. Below is the annual schedule to join in on our next read. Sign up today!

Book Club FAQ

  • How often will books be read?

The YCP Alumni Book Club will read one book every two months. If members of this virtual community are particularly busy with work, family or other obligations and can't read or finish a book, that’s OK. The goal of this program is simply to connect Spartan alumni through relevant, interesting topics.

  • Is there a cost to join? Do I have to buy the book?

Participation is free for alumni! You are responsible for getting a copy of the book to read or listen to—consider borrowing from your local library or exploring e-books at a lesser cost.

  • Will the YCP Alumni Book Club hold in-person meetings?

No. The book clubs will be online so that people can participate from anywhere in the world. Interested members can form reading groups based on geography in order to have in-person discussions with fellow Spartans.

  • How will book discussions work?

The book club has moderators who will manage each book discussion on Goodreads. The moderators will pose questions to the group, share relevant articles, and encourage conversation about topics in the book. Members will be able to post and share as well. This format allows for ongoing conversation and makes it easy for alumni to connect with each other.

  • What is Goodreads and how do I join?

Goodreads is a free online community for book lovers to explore books, track reading progress, and engage in discussions with one another. You can create a profile for free using your email, Facebook, or Amazon log-in information. Once you have joined Goodreads, you can become a member of the YCP Alumni Book Club group. This is where book selection and discussions will occur. When requesting to join, please include your full name and graduation year so that we may confirm your alumni status.
