Doris and Bernard Gordon Leadership Scholarship
The Gordon Scholars program is a four-year Jewish leadership scholarship opportunity in the York College Honors Community. This scholars program works to strengthen students' leadership skills, helping them to acquire Jewish language and thought to frame their understanding of leadership. The Gordon family established the program "for the purpose of increasing the number and visibility of Jewish students" at the College. Therefore, Gordon Scholars are expected to serve as active members of Hillel and leaders of Jewish student life during their time at YCP. Four Gordon Leadership Scholarships are awarded each year.
Gordon Leadership Scholars graduate with:
- A Jewish community
- A relationship with a Jewish mentor
- An understanding of their own leadership philosophy
- Self-awareness regarding their own leadership offerings, including strengths, areas for growth, and their context as a leader
- Increased knowledge of Jewish ideals and history
- A leadership skill set to apply beyond college
Gordon Scholars build and demonstrate leadership abilities in group and individual initiatives developed through "design thinking" processes. In addition to leadership, these students exhibit a desire to be part of a cohort experience and show a demonstrable level of grit. They are passionate about both learning and Jewish life, and represent a broad range of Jewish backgrounds.
