Promoting Excellence in Tomorrow's Leaders
York College of Pennsylvania’s student leadership programs are grounded in the belief that leadership is a learned process that includes people facilitating positive social change within their communities. The purpose of these programs is to provide opportunities for students to explore their personal leadership identity, develop and enhance leadership competencies, and prepare students for college and community leadership roles.
Leadership Opportunities
The Student Leadership Program's framework features three distinct opportunities for students as they move through their college experience.
ExCEL Series
The Excellence in Creating Extraordinary Leaders (ExCEL) series provides free programs each semester to develop leadership skills and leadership identity among students. ExCEL programs include presentations, workshops, and forums tailored to student organization leaders and students looking to explore the essentials of leadership. The ExCEL Series is designed for individual students, as well as student organizations/clubs striving for excellence.
ChangeCon
Whether you’re a new leader, an experienced leader, or not even sure if you are a leader — this opportunity is designed with you in mind. ChangeCon, the Social Change Leadership Conference, is a regional collegiate conference designed to help students engage with peers while exploring their personal leadership style and discovering ways to make positive social change in their everyday lives.
Developing Leaders Seminar
The Developing Leaders Seminar (DLS) is a distinctive eight-week non-credit leadership experience for sophomore and junior students at YCP. The Seminar focuses on four main topics: leadership development, civic engagement, diversity and inclusion, and professionalism. Components of the Seminar include weekly class meetings, discussions with peers and administrators, self-reflection exercises, a service project in the City of York, a day at the ropes course, and being matched with a community mentor for the semester.
