York College of PA to Hose March 1 Panel Discussion for Exhibition 'The Speed of Thinking'
York College of Pennsylvania will host a closing reception and panel discussion beginning at 4:30 p.m., March 1, for the exhibition “The Speed of Thinking: Joelle Dietrick and Owen Mundy” on view January 20 through March 4 in York College Galleries, Wolf Hall.
Joelle Dietrick will discuss the exhibition with Matthew Clay-Robinson, Gallery Director at York College; Annie Merrill, Thomson Professor of Environmental Studies and English at Davidson College, Charlotte, N.C.; and Tyler A. Harper, Assistant Professor of Literature and Environmental Studies at Bates College in Lewiston, ME.
A reception in the Wolf Hall lobby will precede the panel discussion for those able to attend together in person in DeMeester Recital Hall. To attend virtually via Zoom, register in advance here. The events are open to the public free of charge.
Created by North Carolina-based art team Joelle Dietrick and Owen Mundy, “The Speed of Thinking” is the title of a mobile game about global trade and an exhibition of related collaborative artworks. Born in Harrisburg, Dietrick was eager to exhibit this work in Central PA while her related mural was on display at Dickinson College until September 2024.
The bulk of the exhibition is dedicated to their new series “Chasing the Sun.” Inspired by the young daughter’s desire to travel around the world at the same pace as the sun to avoid sleep, the imagery in the series represents extinct plants and eco-friendly architecture made by female architects from every time zone.
