Don’t Do It Alone: Find the Help You Need to Succeed in Classes

alt

College coursework can feel overwhelming at times, but you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. There are tons of resources available to help you stay on track academically and to support you throughout the semester.

As a student at York College of Pennsylvania, you have access to a variety of campus services and a network of people who are eager to help you.

Resource #1: Your Professors

Feeling confused about a topic? Go straight to the source — your professor. They are available to help, and attending office hours is a great way to ask questions, get clarification about an assignment, or just talk through tough concepts.

When your instructor provides feedback on an assignment, take time to read their comments carefully, and if something doesn’t make sense, follow up with them. Asking questions shows that you’re taking charge of your learning.

Don’t be afraid to reach out. Your professors want to see you succeed!

Resource #2: The Academic Success Center

If you need help with a particular subject, head over to the Academic Success Center for tutoring or coaching. Whether it’s math, biology, writing, accounting, or any other subject, peer tutors are there to help.

Tutors for many introductory courses are available on a drop-in basis, or you can make an appointment through your Spartan Success Network student account (Go to the Course Tutoring service to view available tutoring appointments).

Resource #3: The Writing & Communication Studio

The Writing & Communication Studio can assist you with essays, presentations, and other writing assignments. Appointments are available either in person or virtually, or you may schedule a Drop-Off Essay Review appointment.

Tutors are available to help at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to final editing and proofreading.

Resource #4: The Library

Got a research paper coming up? The library staff at York College are experts in finding sources, understanding databases, and organizing your work. Research doesn’t have to be stressful. Just ask a librarian!

YCP students also have access to research databases, a wide range of academic journals, and Interlibrary Loan to assist you in finding high-quality academic materials.

Resource #5: Student Accessibility Services

If you need academic accommodations, don’t hesitate to contact Student Accessibility Services (SAS). Whether it’s extended time for test-taking, a quiet space to sit for your exam, or access to a professional with whom you can discuss your options for accommodation, SAS staff are available to support students who have documented disabilities.

Use Your Resources

Don’t try to do it all by yourself, especially if you’re starting to feel overwhelmed. York College offers plenty of resources designed to help you, and they’re included in your tuition and fees — so take advantage of them!

Whether it’s chatting with a professor, scheduling a tutoring session, or asking for research help, these on-campus helpers are here to make sure you succeed.
