Moving on! York College Spartans Field Hockey Team Advances in NCAA Tournament
The tenth-ranked York College field hockey squad is moving to the second round of the NCAA Tournament! The Spartans beat the Johnson & Wales Wildcats 2-0 Wednesday at home.
The Spartans have now won seven straight games, while the Wildcats had their 17-game win streak halted by the loss. York is now 17-5 for the campaign.
Senior Libby Wild scored in the second quarter off a pass from Hannah Downs on a penalty corner. The Spartans got a key insurance goal late in the third quarter, as first-year Spartan Kelbie Linebaugh scored her sixth goal of the year.
Senior goalie Belle Fields and her defense made that lead stand. Fields picked up her 48th career win in goal, and the shutout was her 30th of the season.
York posted their 12th shutout of the year as the 17 wins set a new school record.
The Spartans now go to Salisbury, Maryland for the second round of the tournament. York College will face Christopher Newport University on Saturday, November 16 at 2 p.m. The winner of that game will play in the third round on Sunday with a trip to the Division III Final Four on the line!
Good luck, Spartans!
