The Spartan senior now has a school-record 38 doubles wins for York.
The York College women's tennis team finally got to play a home match at the Myers Tennis Complex on Sunday. Unfortunately for the Green and White, the Spartans dropped a tight 5-4 decision to Randolph-Macon on a sun splashed day in York.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 1-1 while the Spartans fell to 0-2.
Randolph-Macon took the early lead as they won two of the three doubles matches. The Spartans number one tandem of Elsa Oestermarker and Bri Serruto improved to 2-0 on the year with an 8-5 victory. The win was historically important as Oestermarker became the school's all-time leader in doubles wins as she now owns 38 victories. She passes former Spartan standout Katie Wagner for the school record.
The Yellow Jackets earned an 8-1 win in second doubles and an 8-2 win in the third doubles match to take the 2-1 lead.
Oestermarker got York started off on the right foot in singles play as she rolled to a 6-4, 6-3 first singles victory for her 36th career win, five short of Wagner's individual career total.
Hannah Sult suffered a 6-1, 2-6, 14-12 marathon loss against Catherine Mowry in the second singles match. Serruto improved to 2-0 in third singles as she posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Meckenzie Letellier.
Maddi Haggerty fell to Katie Sarnowski 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 in the fourth singles match. Senior Eleanor Beck gave York their fourth point with a 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 fifth singles win. Randolph-Macon sealed the win when Adele Huffman earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Caraline Junkin in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, October 7 when they travel to Gettysburg College to face off against the Bullets in a non-conference contest. The match is set for a noon start.
