The Reverend Dr. Glenn Miller serves as the Senior Director of Philanthropy for York College of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the staff in 2019, he served in vice presidential roles at SpiriTrust Lutheran in York, Carthage College in Wisconsin, and the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. Glenn is also an ordained priest in the Lutheran and Episcopal churches. He served in full-time parish ministry until he began his executive career, and he continues part-time work as a priest at Saint James Episcopal Church in Lancaster. He is very involved in the York community, currently serving as President of the Rotary Club of York, and on the board of directors of the York County History Center, York Symphony Orchestra, Wheatland Chorale, and board chair of RabbitCares of Rabbit Transit. He is married to Carol, a recently retired executive with the Jewish Community Center in York. They have a daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter in Sydney, Australia; and a son in Philadelphia.
1. The Lincoln Rug
Many years ago, a local weaver, the late David Kline, was commissioned to replicate the carpeting in the home of Abraham Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois, during a major restoration. David knew that Glenn was an amateur historian, and lover of all things Lincoln, and so gifted this piece of that carpet to him. It has hung on his wall for over 20 years. (Glenn would go on to serve at Carthage College, where Lincoln had once been a trustee and where Robert Todd Lincoln attended).
2. The Johnson Treatment
This famous series of photographs of President Lyndon Johnson with a member of Congress was gifted to Glenn by the late Fr. Richard Donnolly, who, like Glenn, was both an Episcopal priest and staff member at York College of Pennsylvania, teaching American History. In politics, like fundraising, it's the art of persuasion!
3. Reading is Fundamental
While at Carthage College, the Reading is Fundamental (RIF) organization invited senior college leaders from across the country to be photographed holding their favorite children's book from their childhood. Several of the photos–which included this one of Glenn–were used in RIF's literacy campaign that year.
4. Irene Christman and James E. Morecraft
Photographs of two individuals who changed Glenn’s life hold places of pride in his office–the priest from his childhood, who inspired him to enter the ordained ministry, and his high school music teacher, who introduced him to both the world of music and higher education.
5. Icon of Moses
Glenn’s wife's grandmother was a talented artist who, while living in Germany, began painting religious icons on wood from the German Black Forest. Margaret Powell painted hundreds of these icons that are today scattered around the world.
