York College of PA Campus Safety Officer Earns International Award for Community Oriented Policing
May 23, 2022 Chad Gleissl, York College Campus Police OfficerYork College Campus Police Officer Chad Gleissl of Lititz has been selected to receive the 2021-2022 Innovations in Community Oriented Policing Award from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators’ (IACLEA) Awards and Recognition Committee.
This award is presented to an IACLEA institutional member campus public safety, police, or security department, or individual employee, team or unit of the member institution, for outstanding service and initiative supporting the effective promotion of the Community Oriented Policing philosophy. New and innovative ideas, demonstrated significant impact of an evidence-based crime prevention program or initiative, and the development of strong community partnerships programs are some of the elements that will be considered for award selection.
Officer Gleissl was selected from a pool of candidates from institutions throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and beyond, according to Campus Safety Police Chief Ed Bruder. “I am very proud of the work he has put in this past year organizing a series of community outreach events and programs for our campus community,” said Bruder. “Those include the Pink Patch Program for breast cancer awareness and fundraising for research, the Halloween Haunted House, the Night out with Campus Safety events, Coffee with a Cop events at our campus Starbucks, helping with our Prescription Drug Take Back events, student crime prevention, and education programs, among others.”
The Award for Innovations in Community Oriented Policing winner's photograph and details of his/her award will be published in the July/August edition of the IACLEA Campus Law Enforcement Journal and posted on the organization’s website.
The winner also receives a commemorative gift and is recognized at the IACLEA Conference and Exposition, scheduled for June 27 to 30 this year in Las Vegas. IACLEA pays hotel and transportation expenses for the winner to attend the Opening Ceremonies of the Conference.
York College’s Department of Campus Safety will also receive a Reaccreditation Award at the IACLEA Conference. “While this recognition certainly highlights Officer Gleissl's efforts, it is also a reflection on the entire Department of Campus Safety and York College as so many others helped to put on all these innovative programs and events,” Bruder said.
“It's definitely rewarding receiving this award, but as said before, none of these programs would have been successful without the help of the college community,” said Gleissl. “I'm grateful to all the students who have helped me to make these programs successful.”
