York College of PA names Dr. Andrew Barnes as Dean, School of the Arts, Communication and Global Studies
October 06, 2022York College of Pennsylvania has named Dr. Andrew Barnes as Dean of the School of the Arts, Communication and Global Studies. He will begin his work at the College on Jan. 16, 2023.
Barnes previously served as Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and as a Professor in the Department of Writing at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. Prior to that, he served as Interim Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at William Paterson University of New Jersey, where he also taught English literature as a visiting, assistant, and associate professor.
“I’m very excited to have Dr. Barnes join us at York College,” said Provost Patrice DiQuinzio. “The breadth of his interests and expertise combined with his very successful eight years as Dean at Pratt make him the perfect person to lead the School of the Arts, Communication and Global Studies (ACGS). He has a strong record of success in program and curriculum development, establishing partnerships with external constituencies, and fundraising. He will bring new energy and innovative ideas to ACGS, and I look forward to working with him.”
He earned a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Bennington College, a Ph.D. in English language and literature from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, a master’s degree in humanities and social thought from New York University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Indianapolis.
Barnes’ publications include monographs titled “The Dark Eclipse: Reflections on Suicide and Absence” (2018) and “Post-Closet Masculinities in Early Modern England” (2009), as well as creative essays in Broad Street and Sheepshead Review. He has also created (Text)ile projects including “Weaving Shakespeare,” an interpretation of Shakespeare’s sonnets in cloth using the components of weaving and the textual elements of poetics.
