York College of PA Names Kristie Houck of Middletown as Graduate Student Scholar-in-Residence

Kristie Houck of Middletown has been named a Graduate Student Scholar-in-Residence at York College of Pennsylvania. Her two-year research residency will focus on the Gunter-Smith Center for Community Engagement’s Urban Collaborative, an initiative aimed at advancing policies and practices surrounding equitable housing in York that was funded through a generous gift from Trustee Emeritus Lisa Fast of York. The Scholar-in-Residence program provides exceptional students funding to complete a master’s degree while gaining experience in community research.

Houck is a 2022 Lebanon Valley College graduate with a B.S. in psychology. As a student, she participated in multiple research projects, including a community-based project. Houck has worked with at-risk youth involved with the Children and Youth Services (CYS) and Juvenile Probation systems in Lebanon County through the Youth Advocate Programs (YAP) for more than three years. During her time at YAP, she connected with youth and their families in Lebanon and became more knowledgeable about the community services offered. 

“I am excited to join the Urban Collaborative as a Scholar-in-Residence and am eager to connect with the community of York City,” Houck said.
