York College Veterans, Active Duty Students Host Nov. 14 Ruck to Benefit Local Nonprofit in Honor of Veterans Day
YORK, Pa. – York College students who are veterans and active duty members enrolled in a first-year seminar are coordinating a Nov. 14 ruck to celebrate Veterans Day. Proceeds from the event, which begins at noon at the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center, will be donated to the local nonprofit For the Love of a Veteran. The event is open to the public.
According to Robyn Maitoza, Associate Professor of Human Services who teaches the course, Boot Camp YCP Style, a ruck is walking or running with a weighted backpack. “It is a common practice in the military, so participants can wear a weighted ruck if they want,” she said. “We will also have water, snacks, and raffle items.”
Registration is available on Eventbrite.com; cost is $20 prior to the event and $25 on the day of the event. Participants will leave from the Grumbacher Center and can choose a 5K or 10K route on the Rail Trail. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 50 registrants.
