York College of Pennsylvania’s J.D. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest incubator company, STEAM Sneakerheadz, on Monday, August 19, 2024 from 3-4 p.m. at 410 Kings Mill Road in York. The ribbon-cutting is sponsored by the York County Economic Alliance (YCEA).

STEAM Sneakerheadz, founded by local entrepreneur Jakyra Simpson, creatively merges chemistry with sneaker culture to offer an innovative educational experience that inspires students in the STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics).

Simpson holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and pre-pharmacy and a master’s degree in chemistry. In the spring of 2024, she participated in the J.D. Brown Center’s McNees Accelerator program, during which she was awarded a first-place prize and secured funding to invest in her business. She has gone on to establish operations within the J.D. Brown Center’s business incubator on the York College campus, where STEAM Sneakerheadz has access to resources from the Center and McNees Wallace & Nurick.

"I am beyond grateful to be a part of the ecosystem at the J.D. Brown Center," says Simpson. "What started as an idea during the McNees Accelerator Program has now blossomed into a brick-and-mortar location. I am ecstatic about the future of STEAM Sneakerheadz!”
