York College’s New Career Academy to Equip Learners with Essential Skills for Today’s Job Market
York College of Pennsylvania is proud to announce York College Career Academy, a new initiative in partnership with global online learning platform Coursera, designed to equip students, professionals, and community members with job-ready skills.
The York College Career Academy will offer access to high-demand learning opportunities in fields such as coding, project management, data science, logistics, bookkeeping, and more. Participants will engage in practical, hands-on activities and earn Professional Certificates from the world’s top companies, including Google, Microsoft, IBM, and Meta.
York College President Dr. Thomas Burns emphasized the importance of this new offering, stating, “York College will continue to bridge the gap between education and employment by providing our students and community members with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in an ever-changing career landscape.”
This initiative supplements York College’s existing degree programs with shorter, more focused learning experiences. From digital marketing to cybersecurity, the York College Career Academy will help learners build the competencies required for a wide range of professions. Learners benefit from York College’s personalized approach to education, combined with the flexibility of online learning.
“Professional learning is an important part of our College’s story,” said Dr. Josh DeSantis, Assistant Provost for Graduate and Professional Programs at York College. “The York College Career Academy will help us deliver meaningful professional learning for our students and the members of our community who rely on us throughout their careers.”
York College’s partnership with Coursera represents a significant step forward for the College’s efforts to expand access to career-focused learning. The Career Academy provides learners with access to industry micro-credentials and hands-on skills training from global industry leaders, empowering them to enter high-growth industries with confidence.
“We’re excited to partner with York College to complement their degree programs with cutting-edge skills and credentials needed to prepare learners for today’s dynamic job market,” said Scot Chadwick, Global Head of Coursera for Campus. “Through this collaboration, learners will earn micro-credentials from the world’s top employers and develop skills that can unlock job opportunities and further their careers.”
According to Coursera research, 86 percent of U.S. students said that earning an industry micro-credential would help them stand out to employers and secure jobs when they graduate. U.S. employers agree: they are, on average, 75 percent more likely to hire a candidate who has earned one.
The York College Career Academy is set to begin enrollment to members of our employer community this fall. Students enrolled in our undergraduate and graduate degree programs will earn career certificates as part of their coursework. Participants will have the opportunity to earn professional certifications and micro-credentials, all with the flexibility of online learning.
