What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Social Work is ever- changing and ongoing; however, some of the things I am most proud of:
Overseeing our juvenile program win Program of the Year in 2012 and 2014; my legislative advocacy work for juveniles on probation through the Juvenile Detention Centers and Alternative Programs (JDCAP) organization; and my current partnership with Adams County Children and Youth in developing a crisis response program in an effort to prevent out-of-home placement for children.
How did York College help you get to where you are today?
Meeting my wife Andrea at YCP has been by far the greatest impact from the College. Academically, York College did a great job preparing me for the workforce. Writing is a key aspect of Social Work, so the academics and coursework were instrumental in my transition from school to career, as well as my eventual graduate work. My involvement with Residence Life as a Resident Assistant was a great introduction to my future career in Social Work.
What was your favorite class/professor at York College and how did it/they impact you?
My Horror Film class with Dr. Olney was my most challenging and favorite class. It introduced me to my love of all things horror-themed while also teaching me to look through a sociological lens. However, Dr. Jacob from the Sociology department was not only my favorite professor but also became a major supporter of my career post- graduation. He took the time to meet with me several times to discuss graduate school and career paths. He is an excellent mentor who helped me tremendously.
What do you enjoy the most about your chosen career?
I not only enjoy advocating for youth and families, but I am passionate about assessing the needs of our communities and developing programs to fill those gaps. I also enjoy helping other social workers develop professionally through trainings and presentations.
