Our secondary education mathematics major is a true partnership program. First, we believe that a professional teacher must have a strong foundation in the theory and practice of both education and mathematics. The Education Department offers a curriculum based on developing researched-based skills and techniques proven to be effective. The Mathematics curriculum provides a broad basis of mathematics theory presented in secondary schools.
Field experience and student teaching help round out your education with real-world experience. This degree prepares students for professional teacher certification in grades 7-12.

Middle Level Education/Special Education
Middle Level majors can study one of four concentration areas: English/Language Arts, Math, Science, or Social Studies. This degree prepares students for professional teacher certification in both middle level education (grades 4-8) and special education (PreK-grade 8).

Secondary Education General Science
At York College, we believe a great science teacher needs to have a well-rounded background in many scientific disciplines as well as a solid understanding of how to teach and lead a classroom. For secondary education general science majors, students select one of three specialization areas that will become part of their required coursework – biology, chemistry or physics.
Secondary Education Social Studies
We want you to confront the fundamental questions of life as you journey from student to secondary education social studies teacher. We help challenge you with intensive instruction in history, political science, geography, economics, psychology, sociology, and anthropology. And we layer that with mentoring faculty who prepare you as an educator with research-based teaching methods and concepts.
